#47, “Falling with hand in the air”. This ballplayer has landed on his back although his ball is still gripped in his raised hand. He and the other players all wear the same style of protective face gear which has a small tip at the top and a row of curls underlying the chin. Are these beards or part of the face gear? They often wear arm guards, tied with bows at the elbow. The players have a chest covering which is carved with a design. Since their toes are not distinguished, they may wear boots. This player also has prominent knee pads. Ballplayer #47, 25 x 36”.Rubbing © Ruth Hardinger |
